For reasons unknown to me, other than I enjoy pulling PHP code apart and putting it together again, Over the past year I have created and maintained many Twitter feeds.

These are updates sent out generally when something changes, or in the case of weather, every hour or when warnings or watches are issued.

It started by creating a Breaking News feed. I wanted to try and gather all the various 'breaking news' updates from news services and put them in one place for me to monitor. The feed needs love, but it's still mostly functional. It's one of those 'tidy up' on a rainy day projects.

There's weather tweets for every main city in every province in Canada, So from Toronto to Vancouver, Saskatoon to Halifax you can monitor current weather conditions. The icon on the feed changes depending on the weather, or weather warnings active.

There are also Toronto fire updates. For Toronto Fire you can add tweets for every dispatch sent out, only dispatches in your area, or only dispatches that are 2 alarm and over. The 2+ feed is the quietest, but also the most interesting.

There is also a TTC feed which monitors transit problems. The TTC though, in an apparent PR move, has decided that only delays of over 30 minutes will be reported. They were reporting delays every 15 minutes, but that gave the impression there were more delays on the system than people realized, and the TTC would rather have happy citizens than informed patrons.

There is a Toronto Police feed, which updates your twitter feed with the most recent Toronto Police Media Releases and Toronto Police Major Crime reports.

If you take Go Transit you may be interested in the twitter feed of Go Transit Delays and information.

If you're a driver, I monitor the Ontario Ministry of Transport Highway Information service. You can choose from All highways (Busy) or specific highways you want to keep an eye on.

Toronto Traffic conditions updates from City of Toronto are also available. This is another busy feed that is updated often.
